1) Canon Law is the laws and regulations made by the church.
2) There are two punishments that a person can face when they violate the canon law. Excommunication is one of them and it means that a person is no longer allow in the church. The other one is interdict which the Pope would take all the religious rights of the king, and by that the king would not be able to perform any sacrament on his land which would make the king think that he would be doomed for life and go to hell.
